How to Start a Break

POS User

After a POS User has clocked in for a Shift, they will need to record the time that they are off the clock for a Break. To start a Break, the User will first need to enter their PIN number on the Lock Screen, if they are not already logged in and using the point-of-sale. Since the User is already clocked in for a Shift, they will be taken to the Home Screen after entering their PIN number. If they are currently using a different screen on the POS, they will need to navigate back to the Home Screen using the Back Button in the top left corner of whichever screen they are on. Once on the Home Screen, the User will need to press the Timeclock Button.

Note:

Starting a Break is different than clocking out. When a User is on a Break, the time of the Break is recorded. This is because some merchants choose to pay for some or all time that employees are on Breaks.

After the User presses the Timeclock Button on the Home Screen, they are then directed to the Timeclock Screen. Here, they will see the current Date and Time, as well as the Date and Time they clocked in for their current Shift, how many hours they worked on the clock, a Clock Out Button and a Start Break Button. To start a Break, the User should press the Start Break Button.

Note:

Users can only start a Break if they are currently clocked in for a Shift. Users who are clocked out or already on Break will only have the option to Clock In or End Break.

Non-POS User

After a Non-POS User has clocked in for a Shift, they will need to record the time that they are off the clock for a Break. To Clock Out, the User first enters their PIN number on the Lock Screen. They will be automatically taken to the Timeclock Prompt Screen. From there, they can press the Start Break Button to begin their Break.

Note:

A Non-POS User may be someone like a dishwasher at a restaurant. They do not need to use the point-of-sale to complete their daily duties, so they will only have access to the Timeclock Screens on your Vital Select.

Alternatively, they may choose to press the View Shifts Button which directs them to their My Shifts Screen. From there, they can press the Timeclock Tab. On the Timeclock Screen, they can see the current Date and Time, how many hours they worked on the clock, a Clock Out Button and a Start Break Button. To start a Break, the User should press the Start Break Button.

Note:

Users can only start a Break if they are currently clocked in for a Shift. Users who are clocked out or already on Break will only have the option to Clock In or End Break.
