Modifier Sets

Modifier Sets are an organized collection or group of Modifiers that can be assigned to Items in the Merchant Portal. Instead of assigning these modifiers to Items individually you have the option of creating and assigning Modifier Sets to an Items as a group. For example, if your restaurant sells burgers, the Modifier Sets you have may be, Add-ons, Temperature, and Seasonings. The Modifiers within the Add-ons Modifier Set might include cheese, bacon, and jalapenos, while the Modifiers in the Temperature Modifier Set would be rare, medium rare, medium, well done. Then when you add a burger to an Order, and the customer requests a medium burger and to add cheese, you would go to the Edit Item Screen on the Vital Select app and select medium from the Temperature Modifier Set, and cheese from the Add-ons Modifier Set.

Modifier Sets Screen

You can find the Modifier Set Screen in the Portal by selecting Items on the left side of the Navigation Menu, and then selecting Modifier Sets from the listings.

Table

On the Modifier Screen you will see a table with three columns: Name, Icon/Color, and Modifiers. The Name Column has the name of the Modifier Sets you created. You assign the name in the Create or Edit Modifier Set Process. The Icon Column shows the Icon and Color you assigned to each Modifier Set. The Modifier Column lists the number of Modifiers that are organized within each Modifier Set. You can sort the list of Modifier Sets by clicking on the Name and Modifiers Columns.

Buttons

In the top right corner of the screen you can see the Add Set Button. Clicking this takes you to the Add Modifier Set Screen. Once you have entered the necessary information and press the Save Button, you are taken to the Edit Modifier Set Screen to finish the Add Modifier Set Process.

To the left of the Name of each Modifier there are three buttons, the Edit Button, the Layout Button, and the Delete Button.

Clicking the Edit Button, represented by the Pencil Icon, takes you to the Edit Modifier Set Screen where you can edit everything from the name of the Modifier Set to which Modifiers are organized within the Modifier Set.

Clicking the Layout Button, represented by two arrows pointing up and down, takes you to the Modifier Set Layout Screen where you can sort the order in which Modifiers appear within the Modifier Set.

Clicking the Delete Button, represented by the Trash Can Icon, permanently deletes the Modifier Set. This action cannot be undone.

Add Modifier Set Button

To add a new Modifier Set, first select Items on the left side of the Navigation Menu, and then choose Modifier Sets under the listings. On the Modifier Sets screen, click the Add Set button on the top right corner of the screen. Enter all information needed then select the save button.

Name

The Name you give to the Modifier Set. Make sure it is descriptive so that it is easy to differentiate between Modifier Sets. For example, you wouldn’t want to have Spices and Seasonings Modifier Sets, as that could get confusing for the Cashier.

Color/Icon

Assigning a Color and Icon for Modifier Sets is required. Because of this, a Color and Icon will be preselected on the Add Modifier Set Screen. You can choose to keep the preselected Color and Icon, or use the drop down menus to pick your desired Color and Icon for the Modifier Set.

Price

Setting a Price for a Modifier Set changes the Price for all Modifiers within that Modifier Set, overriding the Price set for the Modifiers when they were created at the Account Level on the Modifier Screen.

You can also set the Price of individual Modifiers within a Modifier Set. This will override the Price set for the Modifiers at the Account Level, as well as the Price set for the entire Modifier Set.

Modifier Printing

This setting allows you to control when a Modifier is printed on the customer's receipt. It is important to note that this setting does not affect Station Tickets which will continue to include all Modifiers added to an Item. There are three print options available for Modifier Sets.

Never Print

When this option is selected, none of the Modifiers in this set will be printed on a customer receipt when they are added to an Item.

Print Default Changes

When this option is selected, any changes to Default Modifiers will be printed. For example, if your Restaurant typically serves a burger with pickles, cheese, and ketchup, you would create a Modifier Set that included those Modifiers and you would mark them as "Default". If a customer ordered a burger and asked for no pickles, you would deselect the pickles Default Modifier and the customer receipt would be printed with "No pickles" below the burger entry.

Always Print

When this option is selected, all modifiers within this set will be printed if they are added to an Item.

Required

When creating a Modifier Set, you will be able to decide whether adding a Modifier to a Item in an Order is a required action or an optional action. Choosing Required means that a Modifier must be added to the Item. So, if you select a Item for an Order that has a Modifier Set that is Required, when you add that Item, you will be automatically taken to the Edit Item Screen where you will need to select a Modifier for the Item. In our burger example, you may have the Temperature Modifier Set marked as Required, so when you add a burger to an Order, the customer must choose what temperature they want their burger cooked to.

Single Select or Multi-Select

When creating a Modifier Set, you will be able to decide between marking the Modifier Set as being Single Select and Multi-Select. If you choose Single Select, you will only be able to add one Modifier from the Modifier Set to a Item. If you choose Multi-select, you will be able to add one or more Modifiers to a Item. Using the Temperature Modifier Set example from above, if an Item can only have one temperature, it will make sense for you to mark the Temperature Modifier Set as being Single Select. This way only one temperature Modifier can ever be selected at a time.

Modifiers

Once you have selected the Save button on the Add Modifier Set screen, you are then taken to the Edit Modifier Set Screen where you select which Modifiers you would like to include in the Modifier Set. Modifiers can be in one, many, or no Modifier Sets.

Adding Items from your Item Library to a Modifier Set as a Modifier. Items can be in one, many, or no Modifier Sets.

Since you are adding the Item as a Modifier, you have the option to set a new Price for the Item, overriding its Account Level Price and the Modifier Set Price, as well as the option to make it a Default Modifier.

Edit Modifier Set Button

The Edit Modifier Set Button will allow you to edit the information and features of a Modifier Set. To edit a Modifier Set, select Items on the left side of the Navigation Menu, and then choose Modifier Sets under the listings. On the Modifier Sets Screen, click the Edit Button, represented by a Pencil Icon, to the left of the Modifier Set you would like to edit. Edit any information you choose to change, and then select the Save button to save any changes made.

Sort Modifier Set Button

In the Merchant Portal, you are able to change the order of Modifiers within a Modifier Set, depending on how you would like them to be displayed in the Vital Select app.

To sort Modifiers in a Modifier Set, first select Items on the left side of the Navigation Menu, and the select Modifier Sets from the listings. On the Modifier Sets Screen, click the Layout Button, represented by two arrows pointing up and down. This takes you to the Modifier Set Layout Screen. Click and drag the Modifier Buttons until they are in the desired order. All changes to the layout are automatically saved as you make them. Delete Modifier Set Button

You have the ability to delete any Modifier Set that is not currently being used or that just be discarded. To delete a Modifier Set, begin by selecting Items on the left side of the Navigation Menu, and then choose Modifier Sets under the listings. On the Modifier Sets Screen, click the Delete Button, represented by a Trash Can Icon, to the left of the Modifier Set you would like to delete. A pop-up will appear asking if you are sure you would like to delete this Modifier Set. If you select OK the Modifier Set and all listing under that set will be deleted. If you choose cancel you will return to the Modifier Sets page. Clicking the Delete Button permanently deletes the Modifier Set. This action cannot be undone.
